I am not a wedding photographer … probably would never be … why so? I don’t know why, but I just know it 🙂

Never before I shot at wedding as ‘The Photographer’ … I volunteered to shoot the wedding of my friends; fully confessing well in advance that ‘Guys, don’t expect an exceptional job from me … so are you really sure to stick with me as your wedding photographer?’ … ‘Yes we do’ … now I had to deliver !

It turns out; it’s not so difficult as it sounds … shooting a wedding, it’s just point & shoot kinda stuff. You don’t have much time to architect the shot; you blink you miss … and you should NOT miss !

Shooting a wedding as solo photographer; no backup camera; no assistant … bad idea. Not that I got into any trouble or had some equipment malfunctioned … But I realized afterwards, I had no plan B. So are you shooting a wedding? Then have your plans A & B ready to execute !

Once you overcome the demon of where & when to start shooting at wedding; it becomes very easy, your photographer auto pilot takes over & you go on cruise control:

Amsterdam is such a beautiful city; the moment you step into the streets, you get instant boost in your inspiration. The mood, the light … they are so soft that you really can’t go wrong, even if you wanted to … but why would you? 🙂

Bicycles are super hit products there; I have never seen so many of them anywhere else. My hotel was located next to train station; there was a huge bicycle parking lot in front, full of bicycles, I reckon around couple of thousands were parked there. For a minimal cost, people from outskirts could park their wheels there … they would very conveniently just grab their bicycles coming off the train and hit the road … economical & effective

No matter how I love cycling, I still opted for manual walk … didn’t want to miss a single opportunity of a shot. You don’t need to architect a shot there; it just happens to be there, waiting for you … and that is where you start thinking; does place matter? … this is tough one to answer actually; ‘yes’ in most cases. I have been to quite a lot of places around the world (59 cities; 28 countries and counting); some places do possess that magic for so called ‘money shot’ … while for the rest, you need to be either lucky or really imaginative. This is not an excuse to stop shooting, but on the contrary … sometimes it is really required, you have to think out of the box

My visit was very short one, so I didn’t have the chance to visit out of Amsterdam; this is on my ‘to do’ list for next time. So much was to be seen but not enough time … and for the next week or so I couldn’t take my mind away from this song which was being played at a café … “ I am from Holland ***** “ 😀

How it started?

I grew up among amateur photographers, my father & my uncle. My father’s SLR was always an attraction to me but I never understood how it works; the shutter … the aperture, those were scary things for me; thus my childhood to teen, I never dared to get a camera. Finally, I broke this barrier with a point to shoot Kodak (non digital) & got kick out of it, eventually leading me to get my 1st DSLR Nikon D80, couple of years ago I moved to Nikon D300.

Gulf Photo Plus (http://www.gulfphotoplus.com/) – those guys are kool. I can never write or say enough about GPP. Thanks to GPP, I know lot of world famous photographers … those are my teachers, inspirations, motivations & friends.

It’s been hard work so far, obviously this journey & learning process never ends … fame or prize are not the goals, it’s all for passion !
