Life is short, make fun of it

Posted: December 24, 2015 in My inspirations

Some of the best ideas come to mind when you are about to wake up OR you don’t let your analyst bit of the brain to process Ifs & Butts (yes I said Butts) … little ambitions approach? May be yes, but then what’s the fun if not being tiny bit ambitions 😛

Happening of 1st Tough Mudder back in March – 2014 was the catalyst to challenge myself; what happened later is history now. Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) is one dirty experience as we all know. It caught my attention last year and I decided it was time to MOVE boldly. By the end of 2015, I will have

  • Participated in 13 OCR’s (9xSpartans, 3xTough Mudders & 1xStampede)
  • Ran approximately 252 kms during race events
  • Traversed over 355 man-made obstacles
  • Couple of stadium stomps and a half marathon

What drove me to make this muddy bold MOVE? … Well, 2013 was challenging, another move, and new place to live. I was becoming a couch comfy creature, I was in quick sand. And then I saw a clip of Tough Mudder, it took me less than 10 mins to sign up for next even in Melbourne – 2014 (again, don’t let your analyst bit of the brain to process Ifs & Butts). I finished my first OCR somehow, it was painful to say the least … but I knew I had to conquer that beast; so I put myself to the test!

My journey into the world of OCR made me physically MOVING and engaging with obstacles helped me THINK better by turning daily challenges into points of power and ponder. Obstacle course racing benefits and empowers my life, simply put helping me SMILE more. It’s amazing how the simple little things can make a big difference in morale, determination, energy coursing through my veins, all ready to test my limits!

The obvious question which you would ask, what brings me to hurtle through physical pain and mud ridden obstacles? Some would say to get off the couch, others for the thrill fun. As for me, I just want to feel alive. My mind stops fidgeting, chatting, and incessantly badgering me, I am focused, zeroed-in on my footing, my hand placement, the rope, the metal, and my breath

Obstacle racers, covered in mud, focused, instinct forward, feel alive, raw, unshackled, and connected to what’s important: setting an example, being an inspiration, taking a chance, building confidence & supporting others. We’re overcome with gratitude, we are pleasantly humbled and we see ourselves more clearly. We remember what it tastes like to feel fully alive, all those things that matter finally get our full attention

Next time you’re stuck in a rut, feeling crappy, having anxiety, struggling to exist or just bonkers frustrated, participate in activities that turns quicksand into a springboard, challenge yourself physically and mentally, and create solutions verses roadblocks

Its more than a by-product of water and dirt … It’s a Kash thing … 😉

Inspiration comes and goes; it never stays … why so? I don’t know … Wish I knew, I would have kept inspiration my permanent hostage. I guess this is where the difference lies between greats, good and the rest of the lot like me !

Can you push yourself to get inspired? … Yes it’s an option, but why go against the nature? Results won’t be as sweet as they should be. And then there is this unexpected; when least expected factor … the blown away feeling … your mind (or heart some would say) become obsessed … obsessed to the extent of madness. A catalyst that just pushes you to keep going, no matter what … scratch your head as much as you like, but sometimes you just have to “love the things that make you”

Being a sucker for new adventures and cultures, again I took a leap of faith to a new frontier, this time it was Australia. The ‘Down Under’ land, far away as they say … it literally is far away. Simply put, countless miles of beauty on an enormous island

Then Tough Mudder happened … a timely jump start that I badly needed, reminding me that I am not made to live in my comfort zone; I am here to push the boundaries. Not only I survived The Mudder but in the process I made awesome bunch of friends … what else I could ask for? 🙂

Challenging myself is what I am made of … inspiration is back on track … ‘She’ll be alright mate’ 😛

Soooo, another year flew by like a whisker; hardly felt its coming and going … yep, these are the times we live now !

Just like anybody else, I also had mixed bag 2011 … had my fair share of highs and lows, smiles and woes. Looking back at 2011, I am quite relieved (and tiny bit proud) that I managed to keep my head up despite things going bananas sometimes … but hey, this is how its suppose to be right, otherwise its boring, innit? 😉

Sadly, I missed two of my regular goals in 2011:

  1. Despite I traveled a lot (again); clocked more than 50,000 miles around the world … but I couldn’t  manage to visit 2 new countries in 2011 ! … This is something which I really regret; I feel I missed the action in 2011. My aim would be to at least visit (instead of regualr 2) 3 new countries in 2012 !
  2. Yep … I didn’t write enough blogs; or should I say didn’t write at all … this is very sad; I don’t (and should not) have any excuse for not writing blog, but fact remains that I didn’t. I love writing when I get inspiration; and probably I lacked inspirations during 2011 … this needs to be rectified in 2012 !

On positive side … I have a long list of achievements in 2011; sports was one of them. My obsession to do various challenging sports continued over 2011 and I am carrying it over to 2012 😀

On a final note for 2011 … I am sharing this photo which somehow indicates the last evening of 2011 … have a great 2012 !

It has been two weeks or so since I returned from Thailand’s magical trip … and just about now, the holiday hangover is starting to fade away. Switching back to ‘work mode’ hasn’t been easy I must say … couple of souvenir post cards from Cloud 19 Beach Retreat (which are now hanging on my office wall btw) didn’t help to recover quickly 😀

What makes ‘Land Of Smiles’ so special? It’s actually every single bit of it: people, weather, food, places … everything. I don’t think it’s possible to describe everything in words; but there is a good chance that some photos may do the trick … so enjoy them at the bottom of the post

Flood gates to my everlasting passion of experiencing new cultures & places actually opened up after my deployment in Bangkok back in 2003. Until then, I had very little interest in exploring new places. By 2003, I had merely visited 4 countries … but after Thailand, this appetite woke up, and to date I have been to 66 cities in 28 countries and counting … sounds amazing isn’t it; in fact not really!

Met some amazing people during trip to Phuket. Bumping into Mr. & Mrs. Yilmaz was sheer coincidence. Balcony of their beautiful house which is right next to the beach, serves a breath taking view … even the lone tree, which stood defiant to block this view of paradise … was hardly a distraction. At that very moment, I was pretty sure, that’s it … there is nothing better out there. I was so wrong … meet ‘The Masters of Adventures’ aka Mr. & Mrs. Alan. Open seas is their territory. They have been sailing & living in open waters for some years now. Apparently, life at ‘Down Under’ didn’t offer enough adventure to them, so they left Australia & literally moved to a boat (yes .. a boat, the floating thingy). They have been to so many amazing places that they have actually lost the count of it now … and here I am, having seen just the tiny bit of what world has to offer, was feeling somewhat adventurous. I guess I have to step up and do bit more effort than only seeing at least two new places every year. Who knows, someday I might come to good terms with open waters too  … if that happens, I have the perfect name for my boat … ‘Ship Happens’ 🙂

See you in 2011 !

Photographers are cruel

Posted: October 28, 2010 in My inspirations

Back in May’10, I had little idea about wedding photography; that is when I shot a wedding for the first time. Luckily, it turned out to be not so bad … pheww, it could have been worst actually 🙂 … Since then I had couple of requests to shoot weddings; sadly I couldn’t do due to personal reasons

But then, another good friend of mine was getting married in Warsaw – Poland; I couldn’t have missed this wedding for anything … I had never been to Poland and traveling to new places is an addiction to me, besides I could use couple of days off from Dubai & head to the coldish times in Europe. Warsaw took me back in time to Kiev – Ukraine, where I lived during my university times. I guess I’ll always have the blues for Eastern Europe !

Photographers are cruel … I mean, would you have the heart to drag out the newly weds from the celebrations? Just because you saw the shot happening??? I guess not … and if not, then probably you are not a photographer 😉

The restaurant was a piece of art itself; a very classy place … we took some great shots inside the restaurant … but this one is my personal favorite, taken outside, on a crispy cold evening, just after the rain. Newly weds did outstanding help to me for this shot … a so did Mr. & Mrs. Robert … guys, many thanks, couldn’t have done without you !!!

Jump starting my inspirations

Posted: September 23, 2010 in My inspirations

Probably I am not the only one whose inspirations are powered-up by various sources; sometimes you wake up inspired, sometimes inspiration is simply kicked off by an incident, vision, idea or a place … but sometimes, you actually have to jump start it 🙂

Is it brain? or heart? Who give us these inspirations? … I think it’s their team work; nevertheless in whichever way these inspirations come … I take them with open arms. Riding fast motorbikes is one of my passions … needless to say that riding, turbo boosts my inspirations 🙂

Before I embarked onto photography world, I actually ventured & loved doing videos … it started & finished with home videos … I loved making & editing videos; but then somewhere I shifted seriously towards photography. Here is my first video collage on bike … Editing is done by my talented young brother … many thanks Basit !!!
